          The Great Central Valley of California, encompassing the San Joaquin and  Sacramento regions, has long inspired and produced vibrant and diverse voices in poetry. In The Biggest Valley only poets who grew up, lived or worked here for five or more years were selected to represent the valley’s strong, diverse, and contemporary voices.

        Unlike other anthologies featuring poems by writers who have driven Highway 99 or Interstate 5, this collection showcases valley voices who strongly identify with the area’s agricultural and manufacturing industries, the often inclement weather — frost-bitten winters and 105-degree summers—as well as the valley’s native flora and fauna.

         From memories of getting lost in tule fog or summers spent packing fruit, to deftly drawn portraits of the valley’s ethnic and cultural communities, The Biggest Valley showcases the rich talent that grew from and has thrived in California’s heartland.
